Yep, beat me too it. Hot dogs and water dogs are the only dogs I've ever heard fish biting but I'm sure if you could get a dog to sit still long enough maybe something would eat it.

My vote is for Australian Shepherds, Blue Healers, or the combo of both breeds... the Texas Healer. I have a Texas healer and a pure bread Aussie, they have been the best boat dogs I've been around. The only drawback is they dont get to go on full day trips during the heat of the summer, half days are ok but theres just to much fur for this breed to be able to handle it in the 100 degree heat.

We use to take our yellow lab fishing but we would have to be careful because he would always try and retrieve our lures :)-

like the man says...if you're swimming in the ocean and get bitten by a shark, its not a shark attack. You're in THEIR neighborhood. If you're at home in your shower, turn around and a shark is in there with you...THAT'S a shark attack

They don't do real well in extreme conditions though. Short muzzle makes it hard to breath in very hot weather. With any dog, keep your rods put away. Dogs and hooks don't go well together.

Dog nails need to be filed downed or removed. Had a border collie that loved too fish, maybe too much. She would bark at the line, she had more confidence then me that I was going to catch a fish.
I cannot get my red healer to stay in the boat. And hes not the best swimmer.

And be careful with those rods, back in the day when I still did such things I made a king's ransom removing hooks from hounds!
Life is short. Do what you like, like what you do.

thinking about getting a dog ?...have you had one in the past ?...dogs are awesome but you need to keep an eye on them in the heat, they can't talk so you need to know the signs of a stressed animal, I have had Golden Retrievers for ever and I don't have enough time to tell all the stories on the boat...you have to be very careful in the summer with them because they have no where to get out of the sun !!! and it is real easy for dogs to get heat stroke - in case you don't know dogs don't sweat like we do, they sweat through their tongues...they need lots of water and we all know what happens when we drink lots of water - they need to use the closest tree or your carpet...lol...what ever decision you make talk to your vet about the heat and your new buddy, what to do if you let the dog out on the bank to go wizz and it gets hit by a poisonous snake...and be ready for a little extra patience cause that dog is going to try your patience wanting to jump out of the boat to chase your lure, your fish, a squirrel or rabbit up on the bank...with that said enjoy - dogs are awesome !!!
